On 26th February 2013 the UK Immigration News informed that given the on going conflict in Syria, the ministerial authorisation under the Equality Act had been renewed to enable the UK Border Agency to operate a temporary concession for Syrians who are in the UK lawfully and whose visas are about to expire or whose visas have expired within the last 28 days in specified visa categories. They will continue to be allowed to either extend their stay in that visa category, or switch routes into another specified category (with restrictions) in country, rather than being required to return home first. Those applying will still need to meet the requirements of the relevant category (whether student worker or visitor), pay the appropriate fee and adhere to the normal conditions of that category.
