We acted on behalf of a Nigerian child in his application for a first British passport under section 2(1)a of the British Nationality Act. The child was born in Nigeria in 2016 and his mother was a Nigerian national whilst he father was a dual British and Nigerian national. The father naturalised in the UK before his son was born.

The couple married in Nigeria and have two other children who could not acquire British citizenship by descent, given that the father was not yet a British citizen at the time of their birth. Having made the application for acquisition by descent, the child was granted his first British passport.
